1st seed; [Action/Voice]

[Perhaps the journal picks up the sound of Neville's arrival as he is unceremoniously deposited on the icy southern lake sometime in the dead of night. If not that, then it might catch the dull groaning as he slowly wakes and struggles to pull himself upright. If not that, then certainly the furious squeak from sneakers lacking traction on slippery ice would catch the journal's attention, as would the dull thudding as Neville collides with some child's forgotten snowman on the westernmost bank. A sharp intake of breath, then] No wand. Bastards. [In fact, even though Neville hasn't yet noticed the presence of the book at all, he seems perfectly aware that someone is listening, even if it isn't quite who he expects.]

It's still not enough! [The words, though a bit rasped and wheezing, are spoken with the stubbornness of one who rather expected this displacement.] You think you can just Portkey me someplace and be done with it? You won't get me -- not any of us -- to back down that easily. I know you're here -- show yourselves, you bloody cowards!

[The dead silence is less than encouraging. It means that if he wasn't being watched, then he'd been sent far enough that he wouldn't need supervision. Accio wand. [The incantation is intoned softly through clenched teeth. It doesn't escape him how ironic it was that in his desperation to recover his stolen wand he's resorted to a summoning spell that usually required the use of his wand in the first place. The spell fails spectacularly, leaving Neville to suppose his captors laughed, wherever they happen to be.

Still, the place he'd been sent certainly merits some investigation. If he'd been sent here via portkey, then some other innocuous-looking thing might well be the ticket home. It might appear off for a young, underdressed, blackeyed, fairly beaten and emaciated man to be picking up small stones with a thoughtful expression, but finding an alternate portkey is simply the most plausible way back to the more important matters he'd left at home.]

[Action, because Neville'd really rather hex him and be on his way to hang at DA House]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's Malfoy. It's Malfoy having a wand. This means bad things. His eyes narrow.] So the Carrows sent you out here to play jailer? Did they really think you could handle it?

[Voice]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
In my experience, people who disappear never see their homes again. I wouldn't put much faith in that if it's the lie they're spreading.

[action] - ♥!! She'd be competing with Raine for top Luceti Smartie. XD

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Neville shuns this hook. Though it is rather amazing that the hook is shunable.]

[He settles down in the chair, nodding when she pauses.]
So you're saying they're a group who just pluck people from different worlds? Or-- if they don't, then someone does and says it's them? How come? What do they get out of it? ...How long 'til you lot get to go back to Hogwarts and set things right? [So maybe Neville's priorities aren't as in order as Hermione's.]

[action] - ♥!! Raine's one of the reasons she knows as much as she does XD

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Isn't it, though? And it's not really possible to completely shun Hermione's hooks.]

It's difficult. No one really knows for sure. All we have are educated guesses. The Malnosso like to keep us as in the dark as possible, and we have to keep them thinking we don't know anything so they won't be wary of us.

[That and she doesn't know who exactly wipes out the groups of people each time, though she has a few hunches. But that's another story for another day.]

I don't know when we'll be able to return home. I'm constantly researching as much as I can, but the library has been pointedly cleaned of any material on Luceti itself, so our resources on that are limited at best. Right now, we're pretty certain that Luceti, as in the world or planet or whatever it truly is, is what is bringing us all here, and it's been doing this for hundreds of years. We aren't the first group of people to be pulled here. Even the Malnosso seem to have been removed from their own homes and brought here. At least, that's the common theory between the scholars here.

[Naturally, she's counting herself as one of those.]

[action] - ♥!! And it all makes sense now. XD

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
What's wrong with making them wary of you? Maybe they'll back off a little if they know you mean business.

[From the sound of it, there'll be plenty of time for all their stories. It doesn't entirely sit right with Neville.]

In that case, I want to help. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? I can't be away from the DA for too long, not the way things have gotten. Just tell me what you need done to find a way out and I'll make sure it happens. [He's glossed over the bits where Hermione's said that she genuinely doesn't know, because of course Hermione knows. HErmione knows everything.]

Probably the best, until you're satisfied that you know what's up. Caution never hurt anyone.

You need help finding your way to the village, or are you close enough to find it on your own?

[action] - ♥!! XD Her first day here, Raine came over and explained everything she knew

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
If only that were true. Neville, it's as bad as the war. We're like test subjects, Muggles that Bellatrix has gotten her hands to torture. The Malnosso are capable of what's known as Shifting technology. What this means is that once a month, nearly every month, they conduct an experiment. We don't have a choice. And every so often, they pick people seemingly at random and kidnap them to conduct more personal experiments. Angering them would only make it worse. Our abilities aren't quite powerful enough to handle what they might throw at us, not yet.

[Which means she hasn't given up just yet.She bypasses most of what he asks, though.]

Neville, most of the DA's here, living with me. The only ones we're missing now are Ginny and Ron.

[action] - ♥!! Well that's both helpful AND convenient! :D

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That just means there's more reason to let them know they haven't won. Just because they're in power doesn't mean they have to stay there. They've taken us, but that doesn't mean we need to go quietly. If a couple of us fight back, maybe everyone else will too and then we'll be able to go home again.

[He's noticed that, and will be asking again once he gets the chance.]

Wh--really? Are they mad?? Seamus shouldn't have been moved in his condition! [He's not quite thinking of the same people Hermione is when they talk of active DA members.]

[action] - ♥!! yes! but now I have class so XD

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[And Neville is talking about fighting back. Something's happened while she's been gone and she does. not. like. it.]

Neville, what's happened at Hogwarts? You're... you're not acting the same as when I last saw you. [Not that this is a bad thing, per se. It's just different. Very different.]

[A slight twist of her lips accompanies this.]
I should have said, the Department of Mysteries fighters. Harry, me, Luna, Cho, and now you. But what's this about Seamus? [Remember that hook, Neville? It's back.]
Edited 2010-02-11 17:53 (UTC)

[action] - ♥!! You having class gave me time to go shovel some snow. xD

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing major. Snape's headmaster, Death Eaters teaching classes -- I think it's all things you've known already. We're still together, fighting the good fight while we wait for you to finish what you've set off to do. The Carrows like to think they've got everyone running around like good little purebloods ever since they were put in charge of discipline, but we make it very clear that there's still Dumbledore's Army and we aren't going anywhere. It's kind of fallen on me to lead things, I guess, ever since Ginny and Luna didn't come back after the holidays. Lots of people just want to give up and stop fighting and just go to class. They think Harry's just in hiding, like he's forgotten about us and what he got started. But I keep telling them that you're all coming back soon and we'll work together to send those bloody death eaters running back to You-Know-Who. That's why it's important to get out of here as quickly as possible.

[Oh. Hey there, hook. Some of the enthusiasm drains out of his expression, his face betraying some of his exhaustion.] Oh, he just got on the wrong end of a detention. A couple of detentions, actually. We're trying to heal him up best we can, but it's been slow going -- none of us are really up to Madam Pomfrey's level.
hisdarkmark: (I think this backfired)

[Action, because Draco's a troll and will throw a fit if Neville's next door as well]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Draco just raises an eyebrow. Merlin, Longbottom's from the future as well? Just brilliant.] What exactly are you trying to imply, Longbottom? You're making even less sense than usual, and believe me, that's saying something.

[Action, because Neville wants to be there twice as much if it's going to piss off Draco.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[He stares unblinkingly at Draco.] I'm trying to imply that you're a git who can't handle his job, and if you're the only guard I'm going to have in this prison it'll probably be boring rather quickly.
hisdarkmark: (I suppose you caught on)

[Action, because Draco will be so amused when Neville finds out Draco's now an ally]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
My job. You honestly believe I'm the one who brought you to this hellhole? Wrong, as usual.

[Action, because Neville will be positive that DA House is Imperiused]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you have it in you to bring me here, but I didn't think the Carrows would make it easy for me to return. I would've expected Crabbe over you, though.
hisdarkmark: (I can't believe you're serious)

[Action, because Draco loves crushing Neville's hopes and dreams]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Why the bloody hell would you think that?

[Action, because Neville's not a fan of being crushed. Stupid Malfoy.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He's just better than you at things like this. You're too soft.
hisdarkmark: (I can make this look ugly)

[Action, because Draco does not approve of being called stupid]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
...[Neville's face, meet Draco's wand. Draco's wand, I doubt Harry and Hermione would appreciate you blowing off Neville's face.] Explain. Now.

[Action, because Neville doesn't much care what Draco thinks.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[This places Neville in a curious situation. He's reminded rather abruptly that he's a bit too unarmed to be digging at Malfoy like this. Still, it's too late to back down.] I shouldn't have to explain your own failures to you. Weren't you paying attention when it happened?
hisdarkmark: (Default)

[Action, because Draco's just infamous for throwing bitchfits]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, you didn't think about that one now did you, Longbottom? Draco won't outright say it but he's confused. He's got a vague idea what Neville might be referring to thanks to Luna, but he's still uncertain. So, time to ask the important questions and stop messing around.] What month is it?

[action] - ♥!! I would say yay but I'm still sore from two days of that XD

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a good thing she's heard a lot of this from Luna, but that's still a huge shock. She's just going to stare at him for a bit, hands over her mouth. Because seriously? She didn't expect it to be that bad.]

Oh, Neville... I never thought- I mean, Luna's told me enough, she's from Christmas of this year, and it sounded bad enough then, but this... this is worse than I thought it'd be.

And Seamus... he's going to be all right? Has Madam Pomfrey gone? Did they... [She can't bring herself to ask if the Death Eaters killed her. That would be too horrible.]

[Action, because Neville doesn't think Draco's bitchfits are worse than Gran's anyway]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[But Draco's confusion sets off Neville's because how could he not know what month it is? Is this a trick? Had he been unconscious longer than he thought? His answer is cautious, testing.] ...April. Why?
hisdarkmark: (I see something different)

[Action, because Draco's not a crazy old lady with bad fashion sense]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[...just as he thought. But let's poke the lion more, shall we?] Of what year?

[action] - ♥!! xD I'm so glad you understand

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[He forces a smile, mostly because Hermione looks so scandalized.] Things were a bit easier when Ginny and Luna were around, but it's not unbearable! Don't let it upset you too much. we're doing good things, and that's all that matters.

Seamus'll be fine! ...Sooner or later. It's mostly that Madam Pomfrey's had her hands full lately, with students coming in and out all the time. With so many of us in hiding, it would get too conspicuous if we were all in the Hospital Wing all the time.

[Action, because THAT VULTURE HAT IS COOL OKAY.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
1998. What are you playing at, Malfoy.
hisdarkmark: (I apparently like trees)

[Action, because I admit, it made Snape look fabulous]

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2010-02-11 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're from the same time as the rest of them. [Thanks for pointing that out, Draco.]
