Um. Hullo.

Since the weather's started to change, I find it necessary to ask about what's normally done to care for the plantlife here in colder seasons? I've noticed a handful of gardens around the village -- is there a spell to seal the temperature around them? I've been growing a few things that I'd rather not lose...

If not, then this place could probably use a greenhouse before the ground gets too cold to sustain anything.

And, um. I guess that's all. Thanks.

What are you growing around the house now?

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing new, yet. But most of what's there now probably won't survive in the winter. If someone gets themselves kidnapped, we shouldn't be limiting our resources.

[identity profile] cruxofapotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. A steady source of dittany is handy to have around. [An really, having some devil's snare is a nice precaution, but he won't mention that.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that was going to get a little pot in his bedroom regardless of the weather.]

You've been here longer than I have, Harry. How cold does it get in the winter? [He half-knows the answer is, but it's always better to get a second opinion to confirm suspicions.]

[identity profile] cruxofapotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Just don't get strangled, dude.]

It gets pretty cold. There's definitely snow to worry about.

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
[IT BEHAVES NOW. Usually. Just don't let Draco go exploring at night if you two have a sleepover or something. :|]

Then I'm probably going to have to transplant the whole garden before winter hits. There's no way any of it could survive in the snow.

[identity profile] cruxofapotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
[But Harry has no control over that. He'd tell Draco don't and then Draco would go charging into it anyway to be contrary. D:]

You can't put any charms on it or anything?

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Then Draco deserves the possible strangling. :| That's Darwin doing his thing.]

A warming charm would probably be too intense for them. They need an enclosure.

[identity profile] cruxofapotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
[But then Harry has to go back to heroic sexual frustration and THIS IS NOT COOL.]

Is there room for it near the house?

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Is sexual frustration a Muggle disease?]

I don't think any of us have the skills we'd need to build something sturdy enough. But people are usually willing to chat about anything over the journals, right? Maybe one of them know something we don't.

[identity profile] wildconqueror.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
[...wait what go back, that entry says what]

Cold?

...How cold does it get here?

[identity profile] lotusgatekeeper.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
You're a gardener too?

[identity profile] derek-bliss.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking about that too. And yeah, we're going to need a greenhouse before too long for the stuff that keeps living over winter. I know there was snow when I got here in January.

[identity profile] likevegeta.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Spell? [Ping! ... wait, cold. Ahhh.]

[voice]

[identity profile] awaitingalbion.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...Greenhouse?

You think there's some kind of magic that could do that? [He'd love to know.]

[Voice]

[identity profile] esper-flight.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I don't know about any spells that can accomplish what you want, but I like the idea of having a greenhouse around here.

[identity profile] applehair.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
A greenhouse! I was just thinking of that as well.

[identity profile] invidia-keeper.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
A greenhouse could be useful. [Now to think on how to do it, because he didn't have access to his magic last winter.]

It probably would make sense to have an addition of that kind to the Flower Shop, though you'd probably have to speak to Flonne about that. [... Or they theoretically could ask the Malnosso to provide one, if it came to it. At least that way there would be more of a chance for it to restore itself.] The more advanced use of the earth spirit's magic has done wonders for plants which might not normally survive outside their season, but not quite at the level of what ordinary light and warmth would provide.

What are you working on now? [Very interested, yes.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It was February when I arrived, and it was cold enough then for the lakes to have frozen over. I'd reckon that it's a bit colder than that in the earlier months.

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's something of a hobby of mine. [You know, the kind of obsessive hobby that's Better Than Air.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Has nobody thought to build one before now?

[identity profile] lotusgatekeeper.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really neat! I kept a garden back home!
