Um. Hullo.

Since the weather's started to change, I find it necessary to ask about what's normally done to care for the plantlife here in colder seasons? I've noticed a handful of gardens around the village -- is there a spell to seal the temperature around them? I've been growing a few things that I'd rather not lose...

If not, then this place could probably use a greenhouse before the ground gets too cold to sustain anything.

And, um. I guess that's all. Thanks.

Well, my friends and I could probably add some warming charms to a room in the house, but it would be terribly uneven and could do more harm than good, I think. I'd been thinking the magic from another world might be able to help more.

Don't think folks had much of a need until recently, really. After all, there's plenty of food in the shops usually, and not a whole lot of folks seem interested in decorative plants from what I've seen. And the wildlife sure doesn't need the help.

[Oh, right! They probably didn't have those available in Merlin's time.]

A greenhouse is a climate-controlled space that makes it safe to grow things year-round.

Of course it can. Magic can do anything. [Aww, muggles are so cute.]

Well, if you find something would you let me know? There are some flowers I'd like to help. The book I looked them up in said they'd grow back next year, but if I could keep the snow off them that would be great!

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? [Well that pings his nerddom~]

What did you grow in yours?

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose... But there are so many other things you can do with plants -- with a proper set of herbs alone! Are people just not in the habit o growing useful things?

[identity profile] lotusgatekeeper.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Flowers! Lots and lots of different kinds of flowers. What about you?

I'll be sure to keep you updated, Mr...?

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I tend to grow things from my homeworld... I don't think you'd be familiar. But flowering genuses do have their particular uses too.

Oh! My name it's... it's Frank! [Stupid Legato, he's going to miss giving out his real name.]

Frozen? Aww...

[That could...be a problem]

...ya said ya keep plants?

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems that a good number of people would be interested in seeing one be built. I think we might be able to pull together something that works before it gets too cold to do anything! [BRB geeking out.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking into a way to keep them all from dying off in the winter, yes.

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well now would probably be the best time to start making arrangements.. Did you already have plans laid out? I'd love to help if I could!

[identity profile] wildconqueror.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Do ya know anythin' about tropical plants?

[voice]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well normally with a garden the size of ours, we'd have to work on transplanting it to the greenhouse around this time of year. I don't think you lot would really appreciate it if I brought everything inside, so I thought it might be best to see what everyone else is doing for the colder months. [Even though, in the greater scheme of things, the stuff he's growing is of a much higher priority than the grumblings from his housemates. But he is trying to get around inviting the Devil's Snare indoors if he can help it.]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I know enough to make some educated guesses... Why do you ask?

[identity profile] wildconqueror.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I've got a friend who won't do so well in that sorta cold weather...

[Locked]

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you think so? If we enchant it properly, we could probably maintain even more exotic types that wouldn't survive here in a normal cycle. We'd get to discover plantlife from everyone's worlds! [Pardon the excitement. It's a little unbecoming.]

[Voice]

[identity profile] esper-flight.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be wonderful! I admit I've never tried to build anything, but I'd still be glad to help.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, the Devil's Snare has to stay well away from people after what happened in St. Mungo's with it being used to kill people.]

Right. We might be able to use enchantments to stabilize their temperature or set aside a corner of the house for the more important ones.

I don't think I've met Flonne yet. [Or, for that matter, most of Luceti. He really doesn't get out much.] But she certainly sounds like the type of person who'd be the authority of things like this. If we could get a space together, I'm fairly sure it would be easy to charm it properly to maintain the temperature needed... Even if that'll probably be easier said than done, now that I think of it. Hm.

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And by friend, you mean a plant of some kind?

[identity profile] lotusgatekeeper.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course they do! The Mistress has to have a luxurious courtyard after all!
