[Good evening, Luceti. It's just past sunset, and neighbors around House 26 might have noticed Neville outdoors a bit later than usual, fussing with an overgrown potted ivy. A wave of a wand and a ~~cheated~~ mumbled incantation later, the plant has grown to twice its size. From there, it's a bit of a boring magic show while he works with ineffective spells, some of them providing mobility to the little vines; mostly, though, there's nothing. Fully engrossed in his work, he doesn't notice some of the vines loosely coiling around him until they begin contracting against his forearms. He yelps in surprise and sets to work stunning the wispy strands, which might have been easier if he'd work on mobilizing it before it was the size of a rather large cat.

["Companion" is a strong word. The ravenous plant in question is partly to be used for defense against Draco's presence, should there come a time it isn't a complete deathtrap. But for right now, he isn't actively seeking the help of others, though a bit of it has gotten itself wrapped his wand and engaging in something of a tug of war at the moment. Minor setbacks, really.]

[This entire thing is just getting more and more ridiculous by the moment. As much fun as it is for him to watch this little struggle, the sooner he can get this over with, the sooner he can leave. Lifting his scythe above his head, he issues a single command to the boy:]

Hold still.

[In a possibly life-threatening situation, obeying a command like that would imply spontaneous trust or suicidal stupidity. Though Neville stops resisting, he's aware of how costly his choice could be, to have faith. His attention focuses on the scythe, half-expecting the man to bring it down upon his head.]

[Now now, Neville, are you implying that a hulking, battle-scarred man like Arumat could possibly be untrustworthy? It certainly wouldn't be the first time someone got that impression of him, that much is for sure. But he has no interest in using the scythe on anything but the plants; he'll bring it down in a swift arc, intending to sever the tendrils that are twining around Neville's arms.]

[Well really, Arumat. It's a valid first impression. Neville smiles appreciatively once he's absolutely positive he hasn't died without realizing.] Thanks, that's a big help.

[Arumat will just shoulder his scythe again without so much as a "you're welcome."]

Next time don't get so close to a plant you don't recognize.

[The lack of manners doesn't bother him much. Neville's not one to judge a person by his upbringing.] Actually, it's one I've been breeding... It just got a bit out of hand.

[Now he's just sort of staring at it.]

I'm trying to recreate something from home. It's still a work in progress, though. [It's much shorter now after having its tendrils cut off, but still more active and agitated than a potted plant really has any right to be.]

[If it goes for him, he's going to kick it.]

Once it's finished, that would be part of its appeal. It's for security.

Security against those who lack powerful weapons.

It's more effective when one isn't expecting it. As it happens, our household is frequented by unwanted guests at time. Hopefully, this would make them reconsider.

Then get your own weapons to ward them off. Leaving something like this outside could harm civilians.

I haven't played a SO game since the second, but that was awesome IIRC

4 is the only one I've played and it's all Akai and Sol's fault XD
