[Good evening, Luceti. It's just past sunset, and neighbors around House 26 might have noticed Neville outdoors a bit later than usual, fussing with an overgrown potted ivy. A wave of a wand and a ~~cheated~~ mumbled incantation later, the plant has grown to twice its size. From there, it's a bit of a boring magic show while he works with ineffective spells, some of them providing mobility to the little vines; mostly, though, there's nothing. Fully engrossed in his work, he doesn't notice some of the vines loosely coiling around him until they begin contracting against his forearms. He yelps in surprise and sets to work stunning the wispy strands, which might have been easier if he'd work on mobilizing it before it was the size of a rather large cat.

That's the word for Muggle Herbology, right? [He's trying. He is. And though he would prefer to keep his from-home secrets to himself, he's also been itching to geek out at someone who gets it.] I've been doing what I can to replicate some of the species from home with what's available here. [He kneels down to pluck what looks like a very pale Daisy from a patch of similar flowering plants.] It's not perfect, but I reckon this is a generation or two away from being a proper Dittany plant. It's only got little beads of sap on the inside just yet, but if I keep up with my selective breeding, there should be a big enough crop to help out the clinic. Dittany essence is one of the most effective ways to heal wounds, you know. [He might ramble like this a lot, Naoya. Beware.]

[He looks at the daisy with curiosity.]

And it can heal, you said? [Not like there aren't native plants to him that do the same thing, but Neville was going on about this like it was much more potent.]

To what extent?

[He's mostly just going on about it because someone is actually listening to him go on about it.] It's got tremendous regenerative abilities. If you're ever hurt or stabbed or anything of the sort, it'll stop the bleeding almost immediately, and if the injury is caught early enough, it all but eliminates any scarring. [Not that he'd know any of that from personal experience. >_>; ]

Really. [Well, you do have the world's first farmer here. He may be just as much of a !closet nerd about plants as Neville is.

Naoya reaches into his haori, and pulls out a small knife. Neville's got him curious enough, and besides he can just dia if this doesn't work as Neville had said. He makes a swift cut on his hand, watching as the blood pools in his palm.

He extends his hand out with a small smile on his face.]

[WHAT why would he do that aughklhjklg;hl. Though the gesture makes Neville stiffen and regard Naoya with a harder stare, he's not about to just stand there and not help someone who's bleeding. He uses his wand to slice the stem of the modified plant lengthwise, opening it over Naoya's hand and guiding the droplets into the wound. When he speaks, his voice is firm.] Don't do that. It isn't a toy.

I'm not saying it is. I was just curious on how effective it would prove to be. [ He watches as the wound heals over. Really, he had only done so because be was confident he could heal it himself otherwise.]

And it's power is diluted, as of now. You've done a remarkable job.

And now you know. Don't hurt yourself unnecessarily again. [That doesn't make it okay. Neville worries.]

[... At least until someone's pleased with his work!] Oh, it's nothing, really.. I just tend to what nature wants to do, really.

I won't. [ Quite the little amused smile on his face. Was Neville actually worrying about him? That doesn't happen all too often.]

You seem to have a talent for it. Are you working on anything else at the moment? [It might sound like he's sucking up, but it's only half that. He really is interested.]

[Neville's just a good Mom on the inside.]

I've got a few buds going, but it's still too soon to show anyone. They could still die long before they bloom. [He's not accustomed to digesting praise in a remotely healthy way, so he ignores the sucking up awkwardly.]

Of what? [It doesn't matter either way to Naoya. He's all fine with buttering people enough to manipulate them, but true compliments from him (as Atsuro will tell you), are nigh impossible to receive. This was a little of both.]

Mandrakes. Possibly. There's still a lot of room for it to go poorly.

Mandrakes? I assume they're not just legends in your world.

Of course not. Though I imagine Muggles probably believe they are. They can be nasty things if one doesn't know what one's heading into.

Muggle is an interesting term. I wonder what I would be classified as, as mandrakes don't exist in my world, yet I can use magic.

It's squib magic though, isn't it?

..If you're sure. [He escorts Naoya to a smallish patch near the corner. At this early stage, there's only a few sprouts standing tall like unmowed grass.] Mind you don't pull them up. I'm not sure what that would do just yet.

Interesting. How long until you think they'll be ready?

A squib is a person from a wizarding family who can't use magic. ...It's a terrible thing to be. [There's a hint of sadness as he says this, but it goes away quickly enough.]

I don't know if they ever will. Once they've sprouted some more secure roots, I'm going to transfer them into pots and bring them inside where I can control how much noise gets out once their voices get stronger. But it's mostly just a theory right now... I don't know if the charms I put on the seeds will hold out long enough.

So you think I can't use magic?

Hm. [Thoughtful, for a moment.] Have you talked to the forest spirit here?

Not at all. There are plenty of charmed items and temporary spells available for nonwizards. Isn't your magic something like that? [It's the only way Neville's been able to understand the magic from different worlds here. Give him a minute, he's pureblooded.]

I haven't been to see any of the spirits here, though one of my friends knows all of them, I think. [He also suspects it might have something to do with why she's acting strangely lately.]

No. It uses an item, but it's not charmed. Not more than your wands in any case.[He stops at that. There's the matter of him being able to summon demons as well, but he's not going to go there.]

You might try talking to the forest one.

[Well, Neville has no frame of reference for what muggle toys actually are, so it's kind of just a box to him.] And does your comps harness magical ability the way our wands do?

Yes. Although it's technology based more than magic, as yours seem to be. [He's actually not too sure on it because he doesn't know how wands work, but he knows the COMPS aren't fake magic, in any case.]

I'm sure Hermione would be fascinated by it. [Whereas Neville himself is kind of lost by all the talk of teknolijee.] Perhaps you should show it to her one day.
